The streets of Bread in the Municipality of Marathon

The opening of the exhibition of embroidered bread took place on Saturday 10 March in the Municipality of Marathon, co-organized by the Women’s Association of Marathon and the Historical Folklore Museum of Varnavas, which also owns the bread exhibits from its permanent collection.

The exhibition was introduced by the President of the Marathon Women’s Association, Mrs. Milea Papa, President of the Varnavas Folklore Society and the Director of the Museum, Mr. Petros Katsikis. The event was attended and greeted by the Members of Parliament Mrs. Evi Christofilopoulou, Mr. Vassilis Economou and Mr. Dinos Vrettos as well as the Mayor of Marathon Mr. Sp. Zagaris. Also present were the head of the Dynamic Change March in Prem. An. Attica Mr. Balis, as well as the Prefectural Councillors Mr. Plakitsis, Markos, Tsakonas and Baroutas, representatives of the Community of Grammatikou as well as the Professor, Gynecologist – President of the Hellenic Society of Mastology Mrs. Lydia Ioannidou – Mouzaka, Professor Mr. Nikos Yanis and representatives of the wider region.

The specific programme is entitled “The Roads of Bread” and the next stop of the exhibition will be Lefkada (1-10 April) and then Corfu. It was preceded by the Municipality of Ano Liosia (Association of Arvanitic Culture the Griza) and the Municipality of Thracomacedon ( Aristotelis Folklore Society). The permanent collection of the Barnabas Museum consists of 220 exhibits of traditional and embroidered bread from all over Greece and 11 foreign countries. We remind you that the second Panhellenic exhibition of traditional bread will be held in May in Varnavas Community by the Folklore Society and the Historical Folklore Museum of Varnavas, with increased participation from our country and abroad.
