Varnavas and Folk Culture
The Annual rendezvous of Local Government and Culture took place again this year at the Peace and Friendship Stadium from 20 to 22 March. An event of particular importance and value as it was attended by people who dedicate their lives to the preservation and promotion of our folk tradition and popular culture
From North Attica, the Historical Folklore Museum and the Barnabas Bread Museum participated, presenting both the culture of Barnabas and North Attica and at the same time representing the customs of “embroidered bread” in Greece and abroad. The variety of the dozens of exhibits and the way they were presented caused the admiration of both the organizers and participants and the thousands of visitors. The site of the Historical Folklore Museum and the Barnabas Bread Museum was visited by, among others, mayors, deputy mayors and prefects from all over the country, as well as dozens of cultural institutions and dance groups.
The museum’s volunteers and volunteers led by the prefectural councillor of the prefecture of eastern Attica, Mr. Petros Katsikis, and the president of the folklore society, Mrs. Milea Pappa, welcomed the visitors, while the topic of discussion was how culture should play a leading role with its own autonomous role in local and prefectural self-government. The two above mentioned institutions feel the need to publicly thank the volunteer decorators Panagiotis and Metaxia Psychogiou where with their knowledge and passion they gave visually to the visitors of this exhibition, an amazing result. The effort of the bread museum is focused on the next important and pioneering event, on Sunday, April 5, at 6 pm in Varnavas, where in cooperation with the Greek-Palestinian Association in Greece, “THE BREAD OF HIERRANE” will have the first word.
